I can’t wait to ride with the Amazon Hearts Thunder team in Australia!
I was 32 years old when I was diagnosed. I was 8 weeks pregnant, with a 3 year-old son. My husband and I were busily working more than full time at our small business. The story goes like this: the cancer was hormonally fed and growing very fast. We terminated my pregnancy, and the tumor size shrank overnight. Two days later I started neo-adjuvant chemotherapy. After 2 of the 4 rounds I would receive, the tumor was no longer palpable.
I had a sentinel node biopsy and a lumpectomy followed by radiation, tamoxifen and some very good luck. Riding with the Amazon Hearts Thunder ‘06 team, I celebrated the 10-year anniversary since my diagnosis of breast cancer.
I had hoped that that would be the end of it all, but the benign biopsy's that had plagued me for the pervious 10 years continued and became more frequent. After taking under consideration the latest studies and the advisement of some very smart Doctors, I elected 11 years past my diagnosis to have a bilateral mastectomy summer ‘07. One year later I was riding with the Amazon Heart Sister’s down the coast of California again, the best club I never wanted to join!
