I am thrilled to be taking part in this year’s Amazon Heart Thunder motorcycle adventure for breast cancer survivors.

During the course of the week, women from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and South Africa will raise awareness of breast cancer and in particular young survivors’ issues, raise funds for local breast cancer charities and build a supportive community with our fellow survivors.

It is truly an adventure for life and I can’t wait! While I had hoped to be riding a bike, I wrenched my back during my first Harley lesson and will be a support van driver instead.

Statistics in the United States: one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lives. Right now there are approximately 250,000 women under the age of 45 living with breast cancer. These young women experience greater unmet needs, more unhappiness and more financial stress than older women. They experience a high degree of social isolation and are unlikely to know any other women in their situation.

You’ve been supportive of me during my illnesses and of my friends raising money on my behalf for various cancer-related organizations. I am asking for your support once again, this time to support my participation in Amazon Heart Thunder. Help the thousands of women diagnosed with breast cancer each year access the support they need. Thank you for your generosity!
