I am looking forward to my first Amazon Heart Thunder Ride.  It will be an amazing adventure to share the experience with other Breast Cancer survivors and experienced motorbike riders from around the World.

At aged 60 in 2002 as a well and active Teacher of multiply disabled students I was thunder struck to be diagnosed with Breast Cancer.  I felt, at the time, life was coming to an end.  (This has not proved to be the case.)  The lump was discovered after my 3rd mammogram.   After losing my breast I returned to Teaching – I wasn’t going to let Cancer make me retire.  I would do it when I chose!  Two years later I joined a Breast Cancer Dragon Boat Team and have over the last 4 years met amazing women from all over the world who have had a similar journey and courageously promoted “There is active life after Breast Cancer.” The opportunity to participate and experience the incredible camaraderie and spirit of many amazing women has been inspiring and my future life has taken on a new meaning.  Sadly some have lost their battle but I will always remember their amazing courage.

Because of my new passion and the time required to train I chose to retire at aged 64 after 26 years teaching multiply disabled students and 10 years in the mainstream. Having Breast Cancer has given me opportunities I would never have dreamt of.  I have paddled in N.Z., Singapore, America, Australia, Italy-Venice and Florence with Breast Cancer Teams.  They have all been awesome experiences.  I have been motivated to put out the active message and reach out around the World.

When I learnt about Amazon Heart Thunder I wanted to continue to help raise funds for Breast Cancer and raise awareness while promoting “Active Life after Breast Cancer,” also the message that “Age is no Barrier”  At aged 66 years old and a Great Grandmother I feel I can promote this and give hope to young and older Breast Cancer Survivors.
