Hi! My name is Linda Allard and I am not only a breast cancer survivor but I am still surviving breast cancer. I’ve had cancer for the past 10 years and to tell you the truth, I didn’t know a woman could live this long and have a full life like I do. 10 years is a long time and I know that it won’t go on forever. I was diagnosed at the age of 35 and I couldn’t relate to anybody with the disease. Nobody I knew had cancer. Nobody had 3 children under the age of 10 to take care of. When I sit in the chemotherapy room like I’ve done every week for the past 4 years, the women around me are my mother’s age. It’s really hard to find someone who understands the dilemma we face as a young cancer patient. It’s probably the only place I can say that I am young!
When the cancer came back for good in 2005 in my liver and bones, I needed an outlet to express my joy of life so I bought a beautiful Harley-Davidson Softail Heritage. Let me tell you that it’s the best thing I’ve ever done for myself. When I bought it, I thought to myself: if I only do 2000km this year, it will be worth it. Well, I managed to put on over 23,000km in one short Canadian season. I did all my appointments and chemo treatments on my bike. Two weeks ago, after 9 hours of chemotherapy in 3 days, I hopped on a plane to meet my bike in Florida for Daytona Beach Bike Week. Riding my Harley is the best place to be after chemotherapy.
I’ve never done anything like this Amazon Heart ride. When I heard of this on the radio last fall, I couldn’t wait to apply! I couldn’t believe that there are other women like me who love to ride and know the value of living for each day. Please help me get closer to realizing my dream ride in California with an awesome group of women.
Your donation to support my participation in Amazon Heart Thunder will help young women diagnosed with breast cancer in Canada as well as the USA access the support they need.
Thanks for helping.
