Hi I would like to start by saying Thank You for taking the time to read my Story. My name is Karen; I am 45 year old wife to Sid, and mum to Zoe, Sam, and Chris. And nanny to Louise.
It was Christmas 2005 when I was doing a routine check of my breasts and I felt a thickening, but I put it to the back of my mind, after all I thought it had to be a lump to be breast cancer, how wrong I was. In February 2006 there was still a thickening around my breast so I went to see my G.P and was referred to the Breast Clinic.
All our lives were turned upside down when I was diagnosed with Invasive Breast Cancer and One Node Involvement.
March 2006 I had a lumpectomy with a last minute breast reduction, (On the 13 th June this year I will have my other breast reduced). I have gone through the Chemo/Rads and am now a tamoxifen for 5 years.
Being involved with bikes is a big part of mine and my family’s life. My Dad (Bob) competes in Grasstrack/Speedway Racing, I used to be his passenger on a 500cc Sidecar
Although I have always been involved with bikes and racing I have never got round to taking my bike test. So I promised myself that when I had finished the Chemo/Rads this would be the first thing on my list to do.
I really want to give something back and to be able to help others with this diease, so while reading through my local paper I see the advert about the Harley Ride UK, and thought ‘This is the one for me’and i am so looking foward to doing the ride..
I would like to say ‘A BIG THANK YOU to friends and family and the staff at Broomfield Hospital and C&E hospital Chelmsford who have helped me through this past awful year and to all those that sponsor me in the Harley Ride UK.
