I am a breast cancer survivor,
having been diagnosed at the age of 44, 2 weeks after my mother died of the
disease. This experience was not all negative since it made me re-evaluate my
life - hence my moment of madness in agreeing to participate in this ride. Some
of you may be aware that I rode a motorbike for a number of years. I can no
longer regard myself as a biker - in fact I now ride a scooter to work - but the
chance of riding a Harley-Davidson from London to Edinburgh was too good to
miss!! Thank you Harley-Davidson!
This bike ride is in memory of my mother and a way of saying thank you to Breast Cancer Care for all the help and support they gave me when I really needed it. I also want to support the Lavender Trust with their particular focus on young women as I have been shocked by the increasing numbers who are afflicted with this disease. The impact of the treatment, surgery, and absence from work can have a much more devastating effect on younger women and their families.
