In July 2006 I met Meredith and Megan at the World Cancer Conference in Washington. I had met Suzanne, Meredith’s sister previously and she said “you must meet my sister, you two would get on great”. Well I did meet Meredith and this is the result!

Meredith and Megan told me about their work with Amazon Heart and their motorbike ride. This sounded just fantastic and I thought – “Yep, this is just what we need”. So I arrived back at work, full of excitement and told everyone that we were going to be part of this great Harley Davidson ride through the UK.

As Chief Executive of the Helen Rollason Heal Cancer Charity, I am always looking for new and exciting ways to promote our work, raise awareness of cancer and fundraise. Amazon Heart Thunder ticked all the boxes!

On a personal note, I also felt it would be an appropriate way for me to acknowledge my own journey with cancer.

In August 1997 I was diagnosed with breast cancer and I have chosen the ride as a fitting way to celebrate my wellness.

Ten years on, the journey continues, the experiences expand and the desire to live in the moment remains strong.

Please do not let the above picture deceive you – this was the first time I sat on a Harley! Never mind ride one! Since then I have done my CBT training and that is it! To those of you who are bikers, you will know that I have a rather long and challenging couple of months ahead!

I look forward to joining this wonderful group of women who will bring hope and inspiration from one end of the UK to the other.
