It all started in October 2002 when I was diagnosed with cancer after I had found a lump in my right breast. I wasn't too surprised as my maternal grandmother had had breast cancer, but it made me angry, because I was 43 and had a 3 year old son who needed me. Because of my son Jacob I knew I would give it my all to fight this ugly, scary disease. Surgery, 6 months of chemotherapy and 7 weeks of radiation and I was cancer free. Aside from the treatments I basically ignored that I had cancer, went to work, changed my looks with different wigs and had fun with it. But something had changed in me:I realized that life can take an ugly turn at any moment. I decided to live life to its fullest every day and to do things that I had pushed into the future "when it would be a better time".

At the end of 2005 I decided I wanted to learn how to ride a motorcycle. My husband wouldn't let me buy anything but a Harley since he owned one himself.

I bought a brand new Sportster 883 and took the 3 day CHP beginners course. After alot of riding around our neighborhood I finally made it onto the bigger streets and highways. In September 2006 I was on a HOG ride in Santa Cruz and fell in love with a Heritage Softail. It had just my colors: Black with fuchsia flames. WOW!

I told my husband and 2 hours later I had left my Sportster in Santa Cruz and was riding home my new "funky lady". I later found out that just a few weeks later the Amazon Heart women stopped at Santa Cruz H-D for their scheduled stop and one of the ladies bought my Sportster right then and there and rode it for the rest of the week. Coincidence? Another LOH member told me about Amazon Heart and the motorcycle adventures they have. I was very interested, went on line but decided that I was not ready to join that same year. But I knew I would be there the following year. And yes I was. AHT 2007 was an awesome experience for me. Not only the riding and the beautiful scenery every day, but the bonding between us women. I don't normally bond with women very easily and I was a little unsure about that part. But I turned it all over to God and let him be in charge. It was a total adventure from the morning I left Half Moon Bay until I returned  10 days later.

Amazon Heart is a one of a kind organization where young breast cancer survivors decide to move beyond their breast cancer and to do something challenging to prove that life doesn't stop with the "c" word. Amazon Heart raises awareness of breast cancer in young women and supports the Young Survival Coalition. There are so many young women: wives, mothers, sisters, aunts, friends who get this disease every year. Let's show them that they are not alone. God chose us us because we are strong and are able to send a message.

I decided I wanted to be part of this adventure again this year. I have to raise money and that's the hardest part of all. I had a lot of support last year and hope this year will be the same. Every dollar helps!
