I felt it on January 4, 2005. It was hard, not too big, but it didn’t feel right. The next day was an emergency visit to my doctor who sent me for an emergency diagnostic mammogram that very same day. The next day I went for a biopsy, and then another, and this was the beginning of the roller coaster that didn’t stop for a good two years. One for all the tests, appointments, and active treatment – and another for healing and getting back to feeling good again.

Chemo messes with the brain, the emotions, as well as the physical body - internally and externally. Even though I was finished receiving chemo, the residual effects were still in my body for a very long time. Add in the daily radiation treatments, recovery from surgery, bilateral frozen shoulders, 7 months of physical therapy, 158 medical appointments, lymphedema, medically-induced menopause, neuropathy, nausea, fatigue, rheumatism, headaches, bone pain, weight gain, body soreness, loss of concentration, disrupted sleep, hot flashes, strange dreams, indigestion, blurry vision, dry mouth, dry skin, anemia, muscle spasms, anxiety, cognitive impairment, suppressed immune system, a bald head, contemplating mortality, educating myself, making tough decisions, and not missing a day of work - my energy and spirit were zapped!

When this chapter of my life came to a close and my body bounced back to where it once used to be, it was the most awesome feeling ever. One day, I woke up and felt normal again….and it sure felt wonderful! Our bodies are truly miraculous!

So now, life is different. In a good way. Now, since I’ve been there/done that, I’m transitioning my focus into one where I can help people suffering from the crazy business of cancer.

The time will soon be here to go far away. To say goodbye to the breast cancer journey and hello to a life-enhancing journey. To leave the comforts of home and explore a different culture (my fav thing to do!); to experience excitement and adventure, and to lend a hand to a less fortunate population, that I am grateful to be able to serve.

My adventure starts in Mumbai (aka Bombay) for 2 days of touring. Then down south we go, to meet the orphans. After this extraordinary week, another adventure-seeker and I will fly north to Delhi for a few days of touring the Golden Triangle ( Delhi, Jaipur, and Agra ß home of the Taj Mahal!) Then it’s a trip to Rishikesh to visit Shanti Mayi, the guru I met at a yoga studio near my home who personally invited me to her ashram!

Thank you so much for your support! Your donations go expressly towards the materials for the construction project at the orphanage. I will be paying my own travel and accommodations so you can be sure that your support will be used entirely for the children. I’m sure I’ll have lots of great stories and pictures to share to show you the results of your contribution!

Love to all!

Sherri
