Hello, welcome to my fundraising site. I am delighted to share with you my upcoming adventures which will take me and a group of other young breast cancer survivors to Colombo , Sri Lanka .

Amazon Heart, founded by Meredith and Megan, has a very unique and appealing approach to celebrating younger women’s health and triumphs against breast cancer. Their views that life is to be lived to it’s fullest, and that our lives are made meaningful by contributing back to society, resonates strongly with my values and my focus in life right now.

You see, it’s been just over 2 years since I completed my last treatments for breast cancer. I was 39 when I was diagnosed. Two years later, I have my vitality back and my spirit is beating stronger than ever. This is one of the less advertised secrets of anyone who faces cancer, the need to “suck the marrow out of life” and find meaning in one’s life grows to a point of no return. For me, I can no longer tolerate having a life of any regrets. Making this world a better place, even for a few, is more than a dream, it is a need of mine now.

Ever since I began my nursing career over 20 years ago I have dreamed of working with a community in a country with less material resources, and a unique culture. Whenever my fear of cancer starts hitting me again, I find peace of mind in doing those things that are part of my sacred life dreams (even if it does scare me abit). Maybe those of you who are considering donating to my fundraising efforts have had had a similar experience. An “ah ha” moment or a series of moments when you get a glimpse of the uncertainty life has for all of us. To those of you who have always wanted to do something bigger than yourself, consider contributing to a community that has many cultural riches however lacks in durable housing, and funds to support ongoing nutrition and education programs for children. This might just be the opportunity for you!

In Sri Lanka's capital Colombo, 51% of people live in shanty towns, slum houses without basic services such as water and electricity. In one of the worst shanties, Henamulla, 3-4 families crowd into a single room shack, built right on top of the city dump.

The Amazon Heart Odyssey was created in November 2004 to help these families by building basic, solid homes over a one week period in December 2005. Since the tsunami, the need is greater than ever.

To make this incredible project a reality; I need your support for my fundraising efforts. My personal goal is to raise $5,000, which will not only pay for the construction of the houses, but support vital health, nutrition and education programs in the shanty towns of Colombo. I invite you to support me by clicking on the donation links below!

Thank you to Amazon Hearts, especially Meredith and Megan for making your vision a reality for all of us to take part in.

Blessings,
