Hi! I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to join a group of women on a trip to India, building a cottage for orphans.
I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1999, aged 37. Following diagnosis I had surgery (mastectomy), later followed by chemo, radiation therapy and reconstruction. Whilst the memories of eight years ago will always be with me, I am very happy to report that I am in good health and enjoying life to the full.
This will be my second Amazon Heart event – this first was the inaugural event in 2004 – Changing Gears in the United States. During that event I met some amazing women, all of whom had travelled a similar journey. I am involved with Dragons Abreast Australia, as Queensland Representative, and paddle regularly with Brisbane Team “Missabittatitti”. Through Amazon Heart and Dragons Abreast Australia I have had many wonderful experiences. I have met many extraordinary women who have learnt how to face challenges, and how to embrace and celebrate life.
For me, this adventure will be an incredible opportunity to meet other young breast cancer survivors from across the world. As well as sharing experiences and hopefully developing lasting friendships, this trip will provide an amazing opportunity for a group of women to band together for the benefit of those children in India.
How can you help? I will need some support in my fundraising efforts which will go towards the materials for the construction of the cottages. I will be paying my own travel and accommodation for this journey so you can be sure that your support will be used fully for the children.
Thanks for your support
Jo
