I am incredibly excited to have the opportunity to participate in this year’s Amazon Heart Odyssey to India! My own journey began 9 years ago and although I have been 'cancer free' since surgery and treatment in 1998, now at the age of 59 my own personal journey is still continuing or perhaps it is just beginning! I have been paddling with Dragons Abreast Australia Brisbane Team "Missabittatitti" since 2004 and it is because of the wonderful people that I have met through paddling, that I have the courage to begin the next journey.
This trek to India will be an enormous challenge for me and one that I am really looking forward to, however not without some trepidation. I have no DYI or home maintenance skills and yet in December, I am joining a small band of women from around the world, all Breast Cancer Survivors, who are going to assist in building a cottage for AIDS and Tsunami orphans in India, how exciting is that?
For me, this adventure is also an incredible opportunity to meet other breast cancer survivors of all ages from across the United States and Australia and to build a supportive community based on our shared experiences.
