Thanks for giving me the opportunity to let you know about the incredible project I am lucky enough to be able to participate in later this year.
In December I will be joining a group of young breast cancer survivors to build a cottage for AIDS and Tsunami orphans in India. The orphanage where we will carry out this work is based near Madurai, in the southern state of Tamil Nadu. It is a project of Amazon Heart, a unique peer support organization that runs adventure events for breast cancer survivors
I have always been an active person and have enjoyed an adventurous life. I was diagnosed with breast cancer and as a result had to undergo a mastectomy in 2005. At that time I believed that I would not be able to continue to live my life as I had. Happily I can now say that apart from one hell of a scar I am back to my old self. The process I have been though is unfortunately one that affects many Australian families every year but we are lucky to be a wealthy nation and to have the resources to offer support and exceptional health care. The Amazon Heart Odyssey to India has given me the opportunity share my experiences with other young breast cancer survivors and to show myself that I have not just survived but in fact grown from my experience.
I need your support to help with my fundraising efforts. My goal is to raise $5,000, which will help to pay for the construction of the orphan’s cottage. Any remaining funds will be used to fund micro-finance loans for poor rural women to enable them to establish their own small businesses and escape the cycle of poverty. I will be funding all of my travel and accommodation expense so all of your donation will be used on this worthwhile project to help these orphans. I invite you to support this project by clicking on the donation link below!
