"What?"
"Breast Cancer you say?"
"You do realize that I'm only 28."
"Okay, surgery then what?"
"Radiation following dose-dense chemotherapy with abdomen injections?"
This was not a problem as long as it didn't get in the way of my Aspen trip. You see, I kind of told my friends that I was an avid skier. It wasn't until I reached the top of the mountain three treatments into AC/T that I disclosed the fact I have only skied cross-country in the past. I have never been one to take no for an answer and I certainly didn't want anyone to think cancer treatment would keep me from getting down that mountain. Of course it took me hours to bring my bald self into the valley, but the end result was worth the entire trip! I want to bottle that combined look of compassion, pride and disbelief.
I have been searching for something that will not only benefit my recovery, but something that will aid in the prosperity of other young women. Amazon Heart not only binds Breast cancer survivors together to support each other, but they encourage us to use our humility and strength as a teaching mechanism for those who are less fortunate.
This December, a small band of young women from around the world, including myself, will put aside our own battles with breast cancer to take up a new challenge – building a cottage for AIDS and Tsunami orphans in India. I feel truly blessed to have friends and family by my side and the best medical care in the world. This experience will give me the chance to share that love and support.
To make this incredible project a reality, I need your support for my fundraising efforts. My personal goal is to raise $5,000, which will not only pay for the construction of the orphans cottage, but also peer support for breast cancer survivors. I invite you to support me by clicking on the donation link below!
